First Birthday Cake Smash: Capturing Dawson’s Cake Smash Toy Story Birthday Photoshoot

Capturing Dawson’s Toy Story birthday theme for his first birthday photoshoot was an exciting adventure. Especially knowing how much this milestone meant to his family. Dawson lives just a few houses down from me, and I was truly honored that his mama, Autum, chose me to document this special occasion. It’s always rewarding when clients value your work enough to hire you for their most cherished moments.

Autum initially felt torn between choosing a Disney theme or a Toy Story birthday theme for Dawson’s celebration. As someone who has a deep love for Toy Story, I couldn’t help but feel thrilled when she decided on the Toy Story birthday theme for the party. Flying in a room filled with Buzz Lightyears and Woody’s really pulled at my heartstrings. And it made perfect sense to carry that joy into the cake smash photoshoot.

Sometimes, it takes time to adjust to a new enviroment

Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph Dawson a few times. I quickly learned is that little ones often need some time to warm up to new situations and faces. Dawson typically takes about 20 minutes to adjust before he’s ready for any photos. Given that he’s quite the mama’s boy—which absolutely isn’t a bad thing—he tends to cling to Autum whenever he notices me. This is is completely normal and understandable for his age!

To help him feel more at ease while we prepared for the shoot, we decided to turn on “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” on the TV in the studio. It was the perfect distraction before his Toy Story Birthday photoshoot! While Dawson watched Mickey and friends, we played with small toy cars on the floor. And occasionally, we would pull out our phones to catch some episodes of “Miss Rachel.” Autum and I enjoyed a lovely conversation filled with laughter and shared stories about motherhood and our favorite Disney movies. It was a fantastic bonding experience and a reminder of why I love capturing moments like these.

Smash That Toy Story Birthday Cake!

Once Dawson felt comfortable, we dove right into the fun for his Toy Story birthday cake smash! The moment he settled in, he did absolutely fantastic! His little expressions and giggles were just priceless. As part of our Toy Story birthday celebration, we had a unique cake ready for him. Since Dawson is allergic to eggs and milk, Autum dedicated her time to baking a personalized cake that would be safe for him. The creativity she displayed for this Toy Story birthday cake blew me away. It was themed perfectly, with the most perfect sprinkles representing the Toy Story colors.

With everything set up, we played around with different outfits themed around Toy Story. I make sure to have fun in every shot. The vibrant colors and playful elements of the Toy Story birthday theme not only made for great visuals but also helped play up Dawson’s natural charm. It was heartwarming to watch him interact with the cake, smash it, and enjoy the moment without any reservations.

In the end, capturing Dawson’s Toy Story birthday theme was more than just a shoot. It was about creating lasting memories for a precious family celebrating their baby’s first year. I can’t wait to share more special moments with Dawson. Knowing how much they will cherish these moments as Dawson grows older is worth a million!
