Historic Smithville Engagement Session | Cassidy and Joe | Ultimate Edge Photography

Cassidy and Joe are my neighbors and I asked them to be my models a few months ago so I could practice some new ideas and technics that I have been learning, especially through the quarantine! We had been trying to do a photoshoot together for a few months but sadly it had to be postponed a few times due to the government shutdown associated with the Coronavirus.

We had originally planned to shoot at Sayen House and Gardens, but with the parks being closed in New Jersey we had to come up with another idea. Another one of my neighbors has two beautiful Kwanzan Cherry Bloom Trees in his yard so I figured we could just do a super short session there. Yes, in my neighbors’ yard! But the trees have been taking their sweet time to fully bloom.

It wasn’t until I was on my way to Tony’s Beef to pick up dinner that I remembered Historic Smithville Village is a location I have been wanting to shoot at forever. Jason and I visit Smithville often just to walk around and eat at one of our favorite breakfast and lunch spots, Smithville Bakery.

I had to pass Smithville Village on my way to get our dinner, so a made a short detour to drive through super quick to see if it was open and still had any blooms. I had an adrenaline rush because everything was still in bloom and the lighting was perfect! I immediately contacted Cassidy about changing our session plans yet again to Smithville and she was thrilled with the idea!

The session flowed so beautifully! We went to where Smithville Inn hosts their wedding ceremony and took a few images under the amazing cherry blossom tree and in the field along the pond with the beautiful red barn!

Of course, we had to also stop at the carousel too! With the town having a very limited amount of people it felt like we had the whole town to ourselves! This session was what my soul needed to brighten up what quarantine life has darkened. Now, all I need is more sessions like this to keep my creative juices flowing!

Cassidy’s laugh is so cute!

“Say Cheese”

So magical with the pedals falling!

I just love those carousel shots!
