Creative clients are always fun to work with. So, I was excited to hear Danny’s ideas for a Woodsy Cake Smash and outdoor theme for his son’s cake smash session. We talked about props, color theme, and baby Owen’s favorite things. So I designed a photo shoot backdrop that was totally adorable. With a nod to Owen’s moose-themed bedroom, we had some little moose props to go along. Also, we had rustic signs, wooden furniture, a tent, greenery, and pine cones. It was Owen’s vibe, and he had a wonderful time playing in the organic, earthy space while I took photos.
Between outfit changes, Owen played musical instruments, babbled and laughed, and he was entertaining us as much as we were entertaining him. Then, it was time for the highlight. Out came the cake. A delicious, simple white icing cake on a wooden cake stand was in front of Owen for about two seconds before he got stuck into the Woodsy Cake Smash. He was enjoying the experience immensely. Eating some and playing, he was totally into this messy style of celebrating.
To clean up, we put him in the bath and added sparkly fairy lights in the background. This happy little birthday boy loved playing in the water. He gave me plenty of time to capture his joy as he splashed around and played with balloons. When it was time to get out, he didn’t want to go. We couldn’t have hoped for a more perfect shoot. I can’t wait to see Owen for more milestone photo shoots as he grows up and lives an exciting and adventurous life!
