As a South Jersey wedding photographer, I struggle daily with whether to continue capturing weddings or take a step back. Weddings hold a special place in my heart. They are a celebration of love and a reflection of the unique connection between two individuals. The opportunity to capture such a significant moment in someone’s life is a privilege that I do not take lightly.
However, as a mother of two young children, I know that the demands of the wedding season can be overwhelming. The busiest times of the year for weddings are in the spring, summer, and fall. These are also the best times for outdoor activities and quality time with my family. The thought of missing out on weekends spent at craft events, walking the boardwalk, or lounging by the pool with my loved ones is a sacrifice that weighs heavily on my soul.
On the other hand, the financial stability of booking weddings is a significant factor that cannot be ignored. The income from wedding bookings helps to support my family and allows us to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. The decision to step away from wedding photography would undoubtedly impact our finances. This adds an extra layer of complexity to the decision-making process.
Moreover, the connections and bonds I have created with my couples over the years are irreplaceable. Witnessing their love story unfold and capturing it in a series of timeless photographs is a joy unlike any other. The thought of walking away from these relationships is daunting. These connections have become an integral part of my life and work.
After much deliberation, I have decided that for 2025, I will continue to take on a limited number of wedding bookings as a South Jersey wedding photographer. I have decided to only work at venues that I have previously been to in order to minimize travel time and maximize time spent with my family. This compromise allows me to continue doing what I love while prioritizing my family’s needs and well-being.
Ultimately, the decision to balance work and family will always be challenging, but I am confident that with careful planning and prioritization, I can find a way to make it work. Weddings will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a significant moment in the lives of others.
